(More customer reviews)This is the best attachment/accessory out there for refinishing shutters, or anything with slats or narrow openings--provided you remove most of the old paint with heat or solvent first. I found these to work much better than Fein's sanding fingers, but that experience was partially my own fault.
Note that the product description reads:
"Hook and loop face designed for long life when used properly"
"Proper Use" is a key factor to success with all Fein sanding attachments. You can't run the tool at full speed and push hard on it while sanding. The Fein tool concentrates too much power in a small area to do this. If you use it like that, the velcro will melt and the pad will be useless! You have to have a light touch and let the tool do the work(!). (The same thing happened to the corners of the pad on my old Porter Cable profile sander--that's just the nature of small velcro sanding pads and not exclusive to Fein). The Multimaster is a finishing tool, not a big honking belt sander designed to remove massive amounts of stock, or layers of old paint in one fell swoop. You must remove MOST old paint with a torch, heat gun, stripper etc. or else the paper becomes gunked up within 30 seconds or so.
That is what happened with the sanding fingers: I pushed too hard/ran the tool too fast and the plastic melted. I eventually found that the thin triangle pads worked better because of the increased surface area, and I learned my lesson from the sanding fingers as far as proper technique. I have since used the fingers on mostly bare wood, and they have worked fine--with a light touch.
Note that the triangle pads come in several varieties, but the THIN pad is the only one that will work with shutter slats or similar narrow openings.

This is a two pack of the Thin hook and loop sanding pad for the Multimaster tool. The hook and loop attachment system allows for switching paper between grits in the middle of a sanding job. The hook and loop face of the pad is designed for long life when used properly.
