(More customer reviews)As with all bimetal blades, the hardened cuting teeth are induction hardened teeth on a nonhardened flexible base. If you over heat the base metal the teeth will go away. If you are cutting dry wall, no problem. If you're cutting plaster and lath then use an abrasive blade with this multi-tool. I have cut through many plaster and lath walls using saber saws, bayonet saws, zip saws, and bimetal hole saws. The main problem is that the lath, when cut through in one spot, will become a loose piece that the blade can't cut because nothing is holding it firmly. As a result the abrasive particles of plaster start heating up the blade as you try to force the blade to cut. Most blades will blades will fail if subjected to this abuse. For demolishion work I use a Porter Cable Tiger saw, but for cut-outs I use a zip saw or with the multi-tool I use an abrasive blade.
Understanding the interaction between the blade and the material is the most important factor when selecting a tool for the job at hand. The second is developing a "feel" for how that tool is reacting to the material. If it doesn't cut efficiently on every cut, don't just force it until it fails, ruins the blade, or damages the tool itself. Use some common sense and try a different blade or tool.
I have used this blade to cut through nails, bolts, and even 1/2" box iron and the blade is still sharp. Also, don't just assume that since it's made in China that it was made cheaply and wouldn't stand up to the job. This does apply to some tools, but tools based on designs made elsewhere are usually reverse engineered and try to replicate their origin. The multi-tool design was based not on the Fein multimaster as some think, but on a much older design for the medical industry. If you've ever seen a cast saw you know what I mean.
